Polymer Science and Engineering

Polymer materials, which have fundamentally and greatly contributed to developing industries in the twenty-first century, have been extensively utilized as key materials from commodities and industrial applications to automobile, aerospace/aircraft, military, sports/leisure, electronic, biomedical and construction applications, such as plastics, composites, films, fibers, rubbers, paints, adhesives, etc. We are dealing with a wide range of polymer materials from general-purpose plastics, high performance plastics, functional polymers and advanced composites to nano-structured, bio-based and carbon-based materials. Studies on polymer science and engineering are not only unique and competitive but also closely relevant to chemical engineering, material engineering, fiber and textile engineering, industrial chemistry, fine chemistry in the viewpoint of fundamentals and applications. The Department of Polymer Science and Engineering provides advanced studies and professional experiences on preparation, processing, characterization, and property evaluation of diverse polymer materials and R&D project performances connecting with nano-technology (NT), bio-technology (BT), and information technology (IT).

Objectives of Education

The goal of the graduate program of Polymer Science and Engineering Department is to produce the excellent and creative engineers with both speciality and application ability in the polymer field, and to contribute in competitiveness improvement of our domestic polymer industry by carrying out both basic and application R&D for the trend of globalisation. For the achievement of this goal, our department has been equipped with modern and cutting edge facilities and our faculty members have been doing their best to make our students outstanding. Our program has focused on both theories and its application by studying basic concepts and high technologies about a variety of polymer materials. Especially, need-based curriculum is going on through solving real problems occurring in the polymer industries and more up-grade graduate curriculum is also preparing for the accreditation of engineering education.
